Whilst you may believe that some things are beyond repair, you may be surprised at what can be achieved by someone experienced in restoration and repair. For the things you really don’t want to lose, or that are sentimental to you, it might be worth asking for a professional opinion.
I feel there is a duty to always look after Deities or Murtis in our homes. Over many years of repainting plaster of paris deities and marble pieces, I wanted to showcase my service to reinstate the love and glory back into them.
Marble
Incense and candle smoke or ghee oil lamps can discolour the Murti over time as stone usually absorbs the smoke, similar to how buildings are discoloured due to pollution.
Repainting
It is said that the second time a murti is painted it, will never look like its first. This could be for a few reasons; the type of marble, its condition and its age. Therefore, it is recommended that the painter understands the deity they are painting and the oil colours that should be used.
Cleaning Process
Before I start to clean any murti, the products I use have to be either vegetarian or vegan friendly. Fortunately, there are products available that help to remove tough red tilak marks or general staining. These are carefully removed so that the murti is not damaged or has a change in its appearance.
Finishing
this involves; gold leaf gilding for jewellery and crowns, carefully selected stone work for Murtis (including pearl work), and a clear high quality gloss that is added to give a premium finish.
